It’s no secret harsh winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin and hair. But did you know your lips are more susceptible to the elements than the rest of your skin? The skin on your lips is thinner, and isn’t covered (thank goodness!) with hair like the rest of your body, leaving it extra vulnerable. The lack of humidity, which we hate so much during the summer, also contributes to dry lips, as well as diet and your own saliva. But don’t worry; there are several ways to fight those dreadful dry lips:
Stay hydrated! Be sure to drink water regularly, and don’t forget to eat those fruits and vegetables, which have structured water to keep you hydrated throughout the day.
Try not to lick your lips. Easier said than done, right? Your saliva contains digestive enzymes that can dry your lips. So fight the urge to lick your lips when they’re dry, and reach for some lip balm instead. Speaking of that…
Keep your lips moisturized with a hydrating lip balm or serum. Chose one that contains shea butter, glycerin, and natural oils. We suggest Qtica Intense Lip Repair Balm, which contains some of those wonderful lip-loving ingredients.
If you’re hitting the slopes, or know you’ll be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time, put on sunscreen! The sun will still burn and dry out your skin, even in the winter. And be sure to use a lip balm that contains an SPF.
